David Patterson


David leads the education team at Make and has over 20 years’ experience as an architect.  He has an extensive portfolio of masterplans and built schemes in the education sector and has led a range of transformational projects for Make since joining the practice in 2005, including the design and delivery of six buildings and three masterplans for University of Nottingham and he recently completed the RIBA award-winning Teaching and Learning Hub for the University of Nottingham.

David is an active member of Higher Education Design Quality Forum (HEDQF), teaches at Central Saint Martins and is vice-chair of the RIBA London Council.

Phil Armitage

Phil has 30 years’ experience of building services engineering design, working on a wide variety of projects and championing passive design, energy efficiency and architectural sensitivity to produce beautiful and functioning buildings.

Donncha O Shea


Donncha manages several project teams at Gustafson Porter + Bowman on a range of exciting and multi-faceted projects. His experience ranges from historic town centres, grade listed landscape settings to urban regeneration and residential development. He is currently leading teams on projects including the UK National Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre, site-wide landscape masterplan for Chelsea Barracks in West London, a number of residential urban developments and series of competitions in the UK and overseas.

Donncha studied History of Art & Architecture at Trinity College Dublin, and Architecture at DIT Bolton Street, Dublin, working at practices in both Dublin and London before joining Gustafson Porter + Bowman in 2008. He has an interest in sustainable landscape development and works closely with clients to ensure a timely and efficient delivery of schemes, often within complex urban sites.

George Georgiou


George is a Director at Elliott Wood leading 30 structural and civil engineers across two offices. He has 20 years’ experience across multiple sectors and all scales of work including small-scale interventions on school buildings to large masterplan work. He teaches at the University of East Anglia.

George has a focus on design innovation and maximising the value of works to the client. He has strong communication skills, which allow him to translate complex engineering issues into clear messages for client team decisions.

Ziona Strelitz


Ziona Strelitz is a design anthropologist, reputed researcher and strategist, focused on user experience of work, education and mixed-use settings, including diverse university buildings and campuses.

Founder/director of ZZA Responsive User Environments, she links social, cultural, design and management perspectives to harness built capacity. Ziona has contributed to game-changing projects in several sectors, including HE. She is an experienced expert panellist, judge of building awards, presenter, lecturer, author, and member of HEDQF.
